Lucky woke Kassie the next morning. The cat's tiny feet pounded across her head a good couple of times, before she woke enough to push up and glare at the feline. Lucky stared back, nonplussed as Kassie groaned, and the cat marched over, purring while rubbing her head on Kassie's.

'Lucky,' she moaned.

As soon as she said the cat's name, Lucky darted off the bed, straight to the door and uttered a pitiful meow. After letting the demanding critter out, Kassie staggered back to bed and turned the glow lamp up to peer at the clock. Nearly two hours until she had to get up.

'Damn that cat,' Kassie growled.

Going back to sleep was a lovely idea, but not possible now she was awake. Resigned to being conscious, she turned the lamp up full and decided to have a long, hot shower. Afterward, she went to the bookshelves Rumal had had installed and selected a couple of books to read. Time flew as she read, and a knock on the door startled her.

'Kass?' Sian's voice floated through. 'It's time for breakfast.'

'Coming.'

Where had the time gone? Kassie pulled a curtain open and blinked at the sunlight that streamed in. Turning the lamps off, she left, joining the other three as they walked to breakfast.

Today was physical training, but after the intensive training they'd had with Elena yesterday, Kassie was feeling rather brain dead.

Not a great mix with physical training, she thought while gazing over the array of weapons that the Lieutenants had spread over the floor. Patel caught her dubious expression and winked at her, then addressed them.

'Today we're going to practice with a variety of weapons. The idea being, that if you lose your weapon in the midst of a fight, you can grab another. We know you're experienced with swords and daggers, but you are likely to be attacked with heavy striking weapons, such as axes or maces.'

Loi sat out to wait her turn. Kassie selected a mace, swinging it to get a feel for it.

'Ready?' Patel asked.

'Mmm… it's really heavy.' She hated to whine, but she was concerned that she mightn't be able to lift it.

'Use your gift.'

Right, she focused her energy around the weapon and tried swinging it again. Now the mace felt as light as her sword. Patel waited, a double headed axe in his hands.

'Ready?'
